Online CPR Classes and What do online CPR classes cover?

Online CPR courses cover the same amount of information as in-person classes. The only difference is that you don't learn in a traditional classroom setting. It really depends on what kind of course you do, and there are many different courses to choose from.

Here's some that might interest you:

  • CPR/AED class: This course tells you all you need to know about CPR for adults, children, and infants. Including how to properly use an AED (Automated external defibrillator). You'll receive a CPR certificate after completion.
  • First Aid class: This course covers everything from injury prevention to burns, poisons, and fractures. You'll receive First Aid certification after completion.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid class: This course covers the most as a CPR inclusive training class. You'll find out everything from correct CPR techniques, how to administer First Aid (including everything listed above in the standard First Aid class), and how to correctly use an AED. You'll receive CPR, AED, First Aid certification after completion.
  • Healthcare CPR/AED class: This course is the same as the standard CPR/AED course except it's specifically for healthcare providers. You'll receive CPR/AED certification after completion.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) class: This course includes everything from CPR, AED, First Aid and other basic life saving techniques such as how to stop someone from choking. A great all-rounder for someone who likes to learn a bit of everything. You'll receive CPR, First Aid, AED, BLS certification after completion.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens class: This course is more of a specialist knowledge course. It covers Bloodborne pathogens such as Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, and HIV. What they are, how they are transmitted, and how you can stay safe administering CPR, AED, First Aid, and any other life saving techniques without getting infected. You'll receive Bloodborne pathogens certification after completion.

Most of these online CPR training classes include Good Samaritan training, allowing you to know your rights whilst giving aid to those who need it, and telling you your legal rights after aid has been administered.

How will I be assessed?

Not every online CPR training course is assessed the same way. However, here are the most common assessments you'll find during your training.

  • Online lectures: Some online CPR certification courses will have online lectures through video conferences or other media.
  • Reading Units: Most online CPR certification classes will have reading units. These are pages of text, similar to textbook pages, that describe everything you'll need to know about your course. This information will then be tested in an exam.
  • Skills session demonstrations: your CPR course might require you to demonstrate your BLS skills over video conference in front of another healthcare provider, or trained healthcare professionals. This could be your exam or be an add-on assessment to an online exam.
  • Exam: to get most online CPR certification, you need to pass an exam testing all of the knowledge you've learned studying the class.

What are the benefits of online CPR classes?

Online CPR certification training has many benefits that aren't possible in In-person classes that isn't just continuing to learn about how you can help others:

  • Flexibility: Online classes fit easily into your schedule. There are no specific lessons you have to take time to go to.
  • Self-paced: As it is all online learning, taking an online certification course allows you to study when you want to study, at whatever speed you learn at.
  • Close to home: you won't need to find a local provider, and try to work out how long it takes to get there. The beauty of online classes is that you can study anywhere.
  • Convenience: If you don't have many travel options, or live somewhere where travel isn't something you can do easily, then online learning is so convenient for those who still want to learn CPR.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to get a CPR certification, there are many courses that help you to be able to become an adequate healthcare provider, and have the knowledge to be able to save lives.
